October 23, 1866: Mark Twain graces the Nevada Theatre stage to lecture on the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii).  The popularity of his writings about this time in the islands created a stir of interest.  A critic from the San Francisco Evening Bulletin wrote of Twain’s lectures at the time: “He displayed not the polish of the finished lecturer - nor did he need it; the crude, quaint delivery was infinitely preferable.”
